The Grand National Roadster show was held this past weekend at the Pomona Fairgrounds. I noticed one thing, that I have been noticing more and more since becoming the web guy for Kit Car Magazine, and that is the amount of Kit Cars you see at the average hot rod show.
I didn't bring my camera, but there were several really nice replicas on display including Superfromaces huge display with several of there beautiful cars. It's nice to see these cars in person, and out for everyone to see.

There are quite a few kit cars at just about every street rod show you go to these days. If a car is built with all new components, it's a replica or a kit car. Whether the vehicle has a fiberglass body, or is brand new steel, it's a replica. The only way it's an original car is if the body is the genuine article. Even then, the car likely has more new components than old. Street rodders and automotive hobbyists in general don't like to have their cars called kit cars, because of the negative connotation the term used to convey back in the '60s and '70s.
Replicas like the Superformance cars are more reflective of the awesome machines that are the kit cars of today. Companies like Shell Valley, Backdraft Racing, Factory Five Racing, Thunder Ranch, Vintage Speedsters, JPS, Intermeccanica, Race Car Replicas, Unique Motorcars, ERA, Kirkham Motorsports, etc., etc., are other replica manufacturers that give the term kit car the honorable reputation that it has rightfully achieved in 2008. KIT CAR Magazine pays homage to the owners and builders of these magnificent machines in every issue of the magazine, as well as here on the web site. We'll continue to cover these cool cars that we can create in our own garage.
We'd love to hear from anyone who went to the 2008 Grand National Roadster Show. What was your favorite car? What day did you go? Did you stay for the awards' ceremony on Sunday night? How did you like the show? Did you see anything that was wild and cool enough that you'd like to try with your kit car?
