Wow I thought it would be a kit car, not an entire company. Maybe if we all pitch in we can buy it. I've got 48 cents burning a hole in my pocket.

I wish they would sell it off by brand. The Mercedes Marlene has basically been all stored in a barn since 1988 I think, I could not even get them to sell parts to me. As often happens, somebody pays an arm and leg for it, then lets it sit for decades. Who knows, maybe the new owner will spin off the losers in the lineup. I would almost be interested, down here the illegal labor is dirt cheap, some real craftsmen. I would put together a few dozen and sell completed cars, or partial complete as the market suggested.

You know that might not be too bad of an idea, you could make some serious money doing that.

Does anyone have a clue where to start to look for a Marlene kit, either disassemble or partly assembled. I have search the web for clues and came up dry.

If you are looking for a "Marlene" kit that certainly limits your scope. If you are looking for a replica of a Mercedes 500K or 540K then there are more options. Since we are talking about a fiberglass kit car the finished product is what you make of it. I am not familiar with the one Classic sells but no doubt there are others available that can be restored at least as nicely. Hemmings has a kit car section has anyone seen any for sale there? You can put a supercharged 5 liter motor from an AMG Mercedes if that fits you pocket book!

I don't think the 40 cents I had would come close to buying a AMG motor haha

My father has one of these original classic roadster marlene 500k kit cars in the garage. Bought many, many years ago with good intentions to assemble as a project in his spare time. Needless to say, no spare time and parts are still sitting in the garage. He once told me it was marked as #3 in the production of these cars. Maybe an offer is all he needs to clean out the garage. Let me know...I'll pass it on!

Check Ebay under replica cars. There is 1 that has a running 289 engine / trans. Listed as Ford replica. Guy doesn't know what he has. Under $3,000

Classic Roadsters is in full bankruptcy, taken over by the bank according to a letter one guy got. Their web site is closed as of today, seems like the owner kinda kept that all a secret, kept taking peoples money for kits and parts with no intention of ever delivering, for a couple of years! We Classic Roadsters II people are now officially the owners of "orphan" cars.

In all probability there are a lot of parts for Marlenes and Sebrings. The problem is, when the bank sells their newly acquired asset, lets hope some junk dealer don't buy it and just scrap out all the parts, but instead lets everyone know they are selling parts. AND there is the possibility that someone who intends to make the kits again will buy the stuff.

That's exactly what happened the first time they went under. They accepted orders right up to the day they closed. Lots of customers lost everything. I was lucky I got most of my kit, all except the rad and some minor stuff. I hope someone responsible and honest buys it up, I'm hoping but not expecting much. Thanks
