Hello everyone,

My name is Daniel, and first off I want to say that this is a really nice site . Also, if this is the wrong place to post, I apologize.

My question is, do you have any articles or forum posts specifically for beginners? I've looked around and haven't found much, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Basically I'm looking for advice on getting started in kit cars. My sister was telling me about them and it really caught my interests. I don't know much about cars (I can change the oil and jumpstart the battery for my crummy 91 Grand Prix), but I like to work with my hands, and the idea of building my own car sounds great. First off, I want to know if this is right for me.

I guess after that, I'm just looking for advice on choosing the right kit, skills I'll need to learn(I'm willing to put the time and money into welding or automotive classes if I need them), and mistakes to avoid. I'm a very self disciplined learner, so if you point me in the right direction, I'll keep going until I get stuck.

I'm sorry if I sound naive, I know that this an expensive and time-consuming undertaking. I'm just not sure what to ask for in the way of advice. Thank you for reading, and thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome to this spot.  Kitcars can be a lot of fun I think, and you are correct in not wanting to get too deeply into them without some knowledge. This is a good space to ask questions and get answers.
I have two kitcars, one too many.  I would suggest something like my SL500 as a great starter car, little stuff to finish up, lots of fun to actually drive and enjoy, very low inventment dollars.  There are all kinds of kitcars, and only you can find what area you feel most comfortable with.  Do you prefer a megabuck garage queen, or something that you can cruise comfortably in and enjoy that way?  If you notice on EBay, there are lots of Cobra clones for instance that are 10 years old and have 3-4 hundred miles on them.  Something wrong there to me, I want to drive and enjoy my clones, my other clone is a 1934 Mercedes Roadster, Marlene model.  Again it is a fuel injected modern as any car for daily use and enjoyment, that suits me, I don't get enjoyment from bragging rights cars, some do..
