Hi everyone,

Before I begin, let me tell you a little about myself. Please forgive my ignorance, since I have very little racing experience. I guess the best thing to start by explaining that I worked for MIT as an engineer. That said, I have plenty of experience building things (primarily robots), and I've built a factory five Cobra. I now have a lot of free time on my hands, and a fair amount of money. I've always been interested in building a real race car, something that is meant only for the track, and that I could competitively race. To give you an idea of the type of car I'm thinking of building, I'm looking at the the RCA P4 kit car and the RCA 917 kit car. (http://race-car-replicas.com/rcrmkiv_photo_album.html, http://race-car-replicas.com/rcr917.html) I have very little race experience. By that, I mean that I have attended a racing school, and I have brought my cobra to some open track days. That said, if I built one of these, with appropriate running gear, would I be able to race it in a division of similar cars. (I'm sure I could find some races I could compete in against some slightly modified cars stock cars, but I want to race against high performance cars similar to mine.) If this is possible, where can I do this, and what do I have to do to start competing?

I bought a formula V car and had a blast
If I had it to do again I would buy a formula Ford and get a couple of years of experience.
Wheel to wheel is exciting and dangerous for the novis.

Good luck on being allowed on the track with the professional.

building a classic race car would be my option, have had 3 1928 Bugatti kits = fun with the right suspensions and tires.

If you are to build it for racing build it to SCCA specs & you will be able to run some limited track days & vintage racing maybee. The thing is race specific cars are built to a spec. if you vear from that spec you will be put in an unlimited class or an upper class at the least or maybee denied to run all together. Do your research buy some chassis/race books on the specific type of racing you plan on running, it is a expencive mistake to build with out a sanctioning body rule book. Start with a Google search for Autocross, Gymcanna, SCCA, Vintage Auto Racing, Road Racing etc., See whats out there & what suits your taste. Good luck.   3836bbl/Budnicks
Buy the book "how to build a _______" or "how to tune a ______" you fill in the blanks.  3836bbl/Budnicks
