Hi All,

A builder friend of mine suggested I post this question to the forum. I own a small company doing all sorts of custom projects and have a CNC machine that has the ability to cut intricate parts out of a variety of materials such as wood, plastic or soft metals.

My question is where do most kit car builder go when they need this type of service to cut instrument panels out or other parts? Is this type of service of interest to the typical car builder?

Thanks,

Kevin

CastleWorks-Kevin welcome to the forum. Where are you located? What is your shop rate? or is it a per part type of charge? I would love to find a shop to produce 1 off stuff, most CNC or machine shops will charge so much it is not even feasable for the average builder, I have a ton of ideas that I would like to incorperate to my cars but can't because I have no machinery or the knowledge to run them at this time or it's not finacialy feasable. I use to have a couple of racing buddies that were old ship builders & machinists that were also Nastalgia Drag racers to boot unfortunitly they no longer do any fab/machine work any longer so I end up out sourcing stuff to local machine shops that aren't familar with racing or automotive apps. & don't turn out the type of product that is desirable for a affordable price. Good luck. 3836bbl/Budnicks

Hi Budnicks,

I am located in the Kansas City area. I generally charge a one time fee of $45 for a single CNC design plus $20 per hour of actual machine time. Most pieces I have done take much less than 1 hour to cut generally less than 30 minutes.

If you have an image or even a CAD drawing, I can create a virtual rendering of the piece before it is cut and provide you with an accurate cut time quote.

File types that work best for me are .JPG, .AI, or DWG and DXF

Feel free to email me at Castleworks@kc.rr.com

Thanks

Kevin
